Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)! « Thread Started on Apr 6, 2004, 2:47pm »
Below are listed some of the most asked questions. So, instead of having to repeat ourselves (myself and Wyn) constantly, I've typed up the answers and steps for everyone's benefit.
If you still have questions after reading these, feel free to PM either myself or Wynnie. Make sure you've read these carefully before doing so, however!

EDIT: If there is a question that you believe should be addressed in this thread, feel free to PM either myself or Anna, and we will most likely add it.
__To post a picture from a website, right-click on the image and click "Save Picture As...". Give the image a name and save it to your harddrive. The next step is to upload it to a server. Free sites that offer this service are:
After you've created an account at one of the sites listed above, browse for the saved image and upload it. Each site will give you a URL for that image (i.e. http://www.freewebs.com/lala/wee.jpg) once it is uploaded. To post it, type the following code in the body of your post:
[*img]PASTE the URL of the image here[/img*]
Simply remove the asterisks (*), otherwise it will not work.To see if it worked before actually posting, you can click "Preview" to see what the post will look like.
From your harddrive:
__The steps to posting a picture already on your harddrive are basically the same, except for the fact that you can skip directly to the part where you register with one of the aforementioned sites (if you don't have a picture hosting account already) and proceed as described from there.
What do the stars and title under my username mean? How can I change these?
The stars and title basically represent how much you've posted, or your status on the board.
- Five of these stars under your username indicate that you are an administrator of the board.
- Five of these stars under your username indicate that you are a moderator on the board.
- Regular members can have anywhere from one to five of these stars, depending on how great their post count is. The higher the post count, the more stars you will earn. The "titles" (Human Landlubber, Dwarven Privateer, etc) under the stars are also an indication of how many posts you have made on the board. As your posts increase, these change:
0 - 99 posts = "Human Landlubber" and one star. Over 100 posts = "Dwarven Privateer" and two stars. Over 300 posts = "Hobbit First Mate" and three stars. Over 800 posts = "Elven Pirate Captain" and four stars. Over 1,000 posts = "*" and five stars.
Once you reach the title of * (yes, the little asterisk), this means that you are eligible for a title of your own choosing! It can be anything you wish. Once you think of a title, you may PM me with your title, and I will modify it for you.
Yes. Simply go to the part of your profile page that says "Name: This is the displayed name that people will see" and type in what you'd like. You will still have to log in as your original username. For example, if I register as Bob, and later change my name to Joe, I will still have to log in as Bob. Otherwise, it won't work.
Avatars
This is the icon that appears under your username when you post. You can select one of the standard avatars that are provided in the "profile" section. However, if you'd like to have a custom avatar (i.e. one not on the list), you simply copy and paste the URL to it into the box that says "I have my own pic". To obtain the URL of the avatar you'd like, first save the image to your own server. Then, following the instructions above ("How Do I Post a Picture?") upload it onto a photo-hosting site. The URL of the picture will most likely be shown after you upload it.
After you've pasted the URL in the box, be sure to check the little box beside it. Also, enter the dimensions of your custom avatar where it says "Custom Avatar Width" and "Custom Avatar Height" on the profile page. The usual dimensions for avatars are 100 by 100. However, if you're not sure, just right click on the image and click "Properties" again. The dimensions will be shown there.
Signatures
To edit your signature, scroll down towards the bottom of the profile page to where it says "Signature". If you want to add a picture, just follow the same steps that you would when posting a picture regularly.
